German opposition party "Alternative for Germany" opposed the ban on Russian citizens entering the Schengen zone and is ready to put pressure on the German government, RIA "Novosti" reports citing the party leader Tino Chrupalla.
In his opinion, freedom of travel is a right that every person has. He believes that we can't just take this right away from the citizens of Russia. Such decisions could lead to a new Iron Curtain. "We can't allow that to happen," Chrupalla said.
The party head believes that Europe should not be divided, and promised to convey his position to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He wants to urge the government to stick to its position and not give in again to pressure from warmongers, the Greens and the Free Democratic Party.
According to the head of the party, the EU Visa Code does not provide for the termination of short-term visas. At the same time, Chrupalla acknowledged that the Schengen rules gave EU member states more liberty for politically motivated restrictions on long-term visas.
