UN to hold emergency special session of General Assembly on Ukraine
28 февраля 2022
The members of the UN Security Council have voted in favor of the resolution on convening an emergency special session of the General Assembly due to the situation in Ukraine. Only Russia voted against it, while three countries abstained. The decision was taken against the background of Moscow's blocking of the previous Security Council resolution. The document was prepared by the Western coalition led by the United States. In it, the UN body condemned "Russian aggression," demanded the withdrawal of Russian forces from the territory of Ukraine and the cancellation of the recognition of independence of the Donbass republics. Then Moscow used its veto right. The decision to hold the General Assembly was made against the backdrop of disagreement.
