Lithuanian authorities forbid their people to go to Belarus for cheap food and fuel

It seems, the Lithuanian authorities get the jitters: official structures publish appeals in the media not to go to Belarus for cheap food and fuel. The country's Foreign Ministry made the statements оn this issue and patriotic political analysts and economists convince  Lithuanians that after crossing the border, they will be planted with drugs, arrested without a reason, or  have some other exceptional experience. They say that the KGB will be recruiting them.

Such groundless hysteria is understandable. Over the last two months, the Lithuanian economy was hit by several powerful blows a few times. First, the VAT for retail trade was abolished by Poles, due to which caravans for sausage and cheese started to come to even from Vilnius.

Now, thanks to the temporary abolition of the visa regime with Belarus, Lithuanians have massively moved to our country for shopping. During the Easter holidays, the number of such travelers increased by a third. So, intimidation does not help too much to save the Lithuanian trade. After all, gasoline here is half the Lithuanian price.
