The local authorities suggested declaring a ceasefire around the perimeter of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, RIA Novosti reported, citing a member of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration chief Vladimir Rogov.
"The heads of the UN and the EU diplomacy should introduce a ceasefire, as well as provide not only sanctions for its violation, but the severest sanctions for the shelling of nuclear power plants. I think it would sober up the heads of the Ukrainian nationalists who blackmail and put the whole world at risk of nuclear catastrophe with their shelling," Rogov opined.
Since August 5, the shelling of the plant by Ukrainian troops has been intensified. As a result, two power units are not operating at full capacity, which could eventually lead to a reactor shutdown, and the plant will not be able to produce electricity.
