Lithuania still fails to adopt a common position on the transit of Belarusian fertilizers. The country is confused as to whether the agreement between Lithuanian Railways and Belaruskali is a threat to its national security. The intelligence service of the Baltic Republic does not see it as a threat, but the government thinks the opposite. The government will have to make a final decision. If Lithuania doesn`t fulfill its obligations under the contract, it can face multibillion lawsuits.
Meanwhile, Latvia decided to support Lithuania. The country has refused to transit the Belarusian fertilizers. This was stated by the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry. But the only thing is that for some reason Riga imposed restrictions only until January 15. At the same time, the transit of Belarusian products accounts for a significant share of revenues of Latvian railroads and ports, while logistics and transport account for 9% of the GDP of the republic.
