Digital sovereignty today is a matter of security and sometimes the very existence of the state or an individual. International law regulates the means of waging a hot war, but there are simply no rules in the information space. The West is armed not only with fakes, but also with blatant political censorship.
Googlе has blocked the YouTube channels of the Investigative Committee of Belarus, police departments of Minsk, Brest and Gomel regions, as well as some companies in the country. Previously, their videos collected millions of views. But in one click, everything was deleted by the decision of the corporation. More recently, two YouTube channels popular in Germany and owned by the Russian TV company Russia Today suffered a similar fate.
Alexei Avdonin, analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies:
The fact that the accounts were deleted is a total deprivation of sovereignty. What does sovereignty mean? It means the ability and right to determine the information policy, to determine the content, which is posted on these channels. And naturally, when such giants or the management of such giants decide to delete an account, this can be unequivocally regarded as information murder and information destruction.
This is exactly the kind of digital death that then-acting U.S. President Trump was subjected to. In an instant, his accounts on all social networks were blocked, and he was deprived of an opportunity to contact his voters and associates. What is this, but not interference in the voting process?
The technological giants, in effect, were given a monopoly right to decide who could communicate publicly and who simply would not be allowed to do so. The digital button is already as destructive as a "nuclear" button and therefore must be taken under international control.
