Belarus opposes UN General Assembly draft resolution on reparations to Kiev

Belarus is strongly against the procedure of introducing a draft resolution in the UN on Ukraine. The permanent representative of Belarus to the UN said that the document was an attempt to legalize the theft of other people's assets. Speaking at the 11th Extraordinary Special Session of the UN General Assembly, Valentin Rybakov accused the West of evading attempts to persuade Kyiv to comply with the Minsk Agreements.

Valentin Rybakov, permanent representative of Belarus to the UN:

“Throughout the conflict, Belarus has done its best to organize talks between Russia and Ukraine, ensuring that they take place during both summit and high-level meetings, including within the Trilateral Contact Group. Did the Western states, the so-called guarantors of the aforementioned Minsk agreements, really want to resolve the situation? The answer today, unfortunately, is quite obvious. Approving the coup d'état in 2014, provoking for eight long years an escalation of the conflict in Donbass, supporting Ukraine in its refusal to implement the Minsk Agreements, turning Ukraine into an anti-Russia, pumping weapons into Ukraine have created all the conditions for both countries to become actually existential threats to each other. The collective West has never tried to persuade Ukraine to comply with the Minsk Agreements. The Western states, the guarantors of the agreements, have not fulfilled their obligations.”

The diplomat added that the draft does not say a word about the current economic terrorism - illegal blockades, illegal sanctions, attempts of economic strangulation of entire countries and peoples.

"The proposed document will not bring us one step closer to peace, but will only polarize it even more," Rybakov added.
