At midnight on August 18, a ban on Russian holders of Estonian Schengen visas to enter Estonia went into effect. The issue of visas was suspended for an indefinite period. Estonia's example was followed by Latvia: it does not issue visas any more, and the entry is going to be limited. Moreover, the official Riga intends to deprive Russian citizens of residence permits, even if they have bought real estate in the country and paid the right to stay. Finland is also cutting tourist "Schengen" by 90%. Lithuania has not yet announced its plans, but is considering a complete visa blockade of Russia.
It is curious that 40 years ago the main complaint of human rights activists to the Soviet Union was that it restricted the freedom of exit of citizens. It turns out, on the contrary, that restricting freedom of entry is a civilized and democratic measure.
Estonia no longer allows Russians into country – isn’t this genocide?
