Dyukov: Nazism is a challenge

Russian historian Alexander Dyukov told why the study of the Great Patriotic War is more relevant than ever on TV channel Belarus 1.

Alexander Dyukov, director of the Foundation "Historical Memory", historian (Russia):

When the Great Patriotic War ended, everyone hoped that this would be the last war with misanthropic ideology, with the ideology of Nazism. Unfortunately, now (almost 80 years later), we realize, this ideology has not gone away. What our forefathers hoped for when they defeated Nazism, unfortunately, has not come true. Neo-Nazism and outright Nazism are still seen in a number of countries. We see how Nazism is sponsored, how neo-Nazi formations are used to undermine the statehood in other countries. Today we need to remember that Nazism is a challenge that still exists. It is a challenge that will have to be fought for quite some time. In Belarus, a large project "Without Statute of Limitations" is being implemented to commemorate the victims of genocide - the genocide of the Belarusian people. It is a reminder of Nazi crimes, it is something that both the Belarusian society and the Russian one need. It is simply necessary to remember it.
