A new day means new shelling, destruction and casualties. For the eighth day, Russia's military operation is underway in Ukraine. The big news on Friday night is a fire near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Kiev rushed to accuse Moscow of the attack. The Russian Defense Ministry responded by pointing to a monstrous provocation by Ukrainian saboteurs. The catastrophe that Zelensky reported to his European partners at night did not happen.
Over the past 24 hours - Ukrainian troops opened fire 26 times on the DNR territory. According to the republic's representative office, one civilian was killed. Another 11 were wounded, including three children.
The Washington Post has finally drawn attention to the methods of treatment of prisoners of war on the Ukrainian side. Pro-Kiev telegram channels publish footage of mockery of captive Russian soldiers. This is done with the tacit consent of the government. And this is a violation of the Geneva Conventions. It strictly states that governments must protect prisoners of war.
Ukraine has also been accused of violating the Vienna Convention. The Ukrainian embassy in Dakar made a post on Facebook that urged foreigners to take part in an armed conflict against Russia - on the Ukrainian side. As a result, the ambassador of Ukraine was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Senegal and received a note of protest.
Russophobia is popular now. In the Egyptian hotels they try to separate Ukrainians from Russians as much as possible to avoid fighting. And in the progressive Europe there is a real witch hunt. In Germany, they attacked "Russian" stores. In Latvia, the blogger and publicist Sergey Vasilyev was subjected to reprisals: they confiscated his son's savings and his mother's farm. All because of his free will - he provided humanitarian aid to the inhabitants of Donbass. European universities expel Russian students.
Actions in support of Russia
Such radicalism naturally provokes a backlash as well. Dozens of people took to the streets of Vienna the day before in support of the DNR and LNR. Activists are trying to make other Europeans understand that the crisis is caused by provocations of the West.
Jaroslava Heeler, a participant in the action in Vienna, Austria:
In fact, it was not Russia's policy that led to the double standard, it was not Russia's policy that led to the escalation of the economic situation. Russia has always tried to strengthen economic relations with the European Union. The European Union is now pursuing a policy of absolute hypocrisy in relation to Russia, to Ukraine. Eight years ago, no one was interested in the situation in eastern Ukraine, no one was interested in the fate of the inhabitants of Donbas, where over 13,000 civilians have already been killed by the Kiev regime. Now for some reason everyone is interested in the fate of Ukraine. However, from the side propagated by the United States and, let's say, Great Britain, we understand that in fact this is a confrontation of an imperialist nature by the United States and Great Britain against Russia
The Ukrainian case is a test of the whole world
How will the Russian operation in Ukraine end? Experts offer five different scenarios for resolving the conflict. Of course, the desirable option for most of the world is diplomatic. But the swaying Russophobia shows that even if peace is achieved between Kiev and Moscow, the collective West will not come down.
