Latvian authorities seriously violate the rights of refugees and migrants on the border with Belarus. This was stated by the human rights organization Amnesty International.

As it is stated in the report, the illegal migrants, including children, were arbitrarily detained in "undisclosed locations" in the Latvian woods, where they were beaten. In addition, Latvian authorities have used electro-shock blows to various parts of the body, including the genitals. Some migrants were also "illegally and forcibly" returned to Belarus. Amnesty International also reports about holding dozens of refugees and migrants in unsanitary conditions. Latvian authorities confiscated their phones. The organization added that in addition to Latvia, serious violations of migrants' rights were recorded in Lithuania and Poland.
