By Stanislav Lipsky: Belarus’ national flag was projected at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris yesterday as a symbol of the country’s participation in the 2017 World Men’s Handball Championship. The tournament is featuring 24 teams and is taking place in eight French cities. The teams are divided into 4 groups with 6 teams in each. The Belarusian team under Yuri Shevtsov is in the same group with Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Chile and Saudi Arabia.
The Belarusian men’s handball team is taking part in the third consecutive World Championship, but this time it is not featuring its long-term leader and six-time Handball Champions League winner Sergei Rutenko who has announced finishing his sports career today.
Belarus will face Chile in tomorrow’s match and Saudi Arabia on Sunday. All matches featuring the national team will be broadcast live on the TV channel Belarus 5.
The Belarus–Chile match will begin tomorrow at 15:55.
