The Belarusian athlete faced the 6th best tennis player in the world – Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova – and claimed victory 7:5, 6:3.
For Azarenko, the tournament in Miami is the second after an eight-month break, but she is already in brilliant shape.
Victoria Azarenko noted that she is happy to be back and she is happy with the progress she has already made – she has defeated a rival from the world’s top 10. Azarenko also stressed she is confident in herself and wants to continue winning.
Next, Victoria Azarenko will play against Sloane Stephens. It was she who beat the Belarusian athlete in Indian Wells. Currently, Stephens is the world’s 12th best tennis player and has already beaten WTA’s No.10 Angelique Kerber and Garbiñe Muguruza – the world’s No.3.
