First round of UCI Track Cycling World Cup starts in Minsk

Minsk hosts the round of UCI Track Cycling World Cup again. This is the first of six planned arounds. The World Cup will be held in a new format, starting next season - the number of rounds will be reduced to three. We wait for the world stars in this sport to come to Minsk. 

386 cyclists from 44 countries take part in the competition. The medal struggle will begin on Friday. In three days 17 sets of awards will be competed for at the Minsk Velodrome. 12 disciplines are included in the program of the Olympics in Tokyo. This means that Minsk round of the World Cup gives cyclists an opportunity to score points in the ranking standings. Team pursuits and sprints, individual sprints, as well as madison, keirin and omnium receive special attention.

The struggle for medals will be intense and spectacular. The world leader in the omnium Greek Christos Volikakis intends to get gold. Dutch Kirsten Wild, two-time European champion this year, is ambitious in her intentions. Letizia Paternoster - a 20-year-old cyclist, one of the most beautiful athletes in the world will surely drive everyone's attention. Letizia is considered one of the leaders of her track team, and at the European Games in Minsk she won gold in the team pursuit.
The Belarusian national team in Minsk will be represented by two-time European Championship medalist Tatsiana Sharakova, world champion in scratch Yaheni Karaliok, medalist of the World Cup in the omnium Raman Tishkov, Alena Amialiusik.

Tomorrow the first qualification race will be held at the Minsk Velodrome. The competition starts at 17:00. On Friday the contest will start at 11 am and last till 9 pm.
