Belarus’ national team to leave for Paralympic Games today

Belarus’ national Paralympic team will be seen off to Rio de Janeiro today at the National Olympic Committee. Alexander Triput has been chosen as the team’s flag bearer; the team’s captain is Anna Konyuk.

The Paralympic Games will feature 20 Belarusian athletes competing in five sports - swimming, fencing, rowing, athletics and judo. Among the most renowned athletes are swimmer Igor Boki and rower Lyudmila Volchek.

The Paralympic Games are scheduled to start in a week’s time and last till 18 September. The opening ceremony will be held on 7 September, competitions to follow on the next day.

The Paralympic Games in Rio will see a total of over 4,000 athletes competing for 528 medal sets.
