This week, Moscow and the tournament VTB Kremlin Cup were in the center of our attention, where two Belarusians - Alexandra Sasnovich and Vera Lapko reached the quarterfinals. Alexandra defeated the tournament’s top seed and the world’s No.13 - Kristina Mladenovic. For the 19-year-old Vera, the quaterfinals became the biggest achievement in her career.

Neither Sasnovich nor Lapko could break into the semifinals, though. Alexandra lost to Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, and Vera to - Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu.

Nevertheless, these victories give Belarusian tennis fans a lot of hope ahead of the Fed Cup final, that will be hosted by Minsk, at Chizhovka Arena.

After all, only recently, Arina Sobolenko reached the finals of the Tianjin Open in China, where she lost to Maria Sharapova.
