During the meeting with the head of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Rene Fasel, the President noted that such amateur tournaments extend the career of athletes. The problem of facilities shortage for ice hockey fans and hockey veterans in Belarus has been solved.

By the way, the President announced the expansion of the ice hockey Christmas holiday. The number of teams will increase in the future. There are many veterans in the world, who want to return to the ice, said the head of state.

Rene Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation:

"I'm happy to be back in Minsk, in Belarus. It's a pleasure to meet your President again. The Christmas tournament is expanding and gaining popularity every year. And I want to congratulate hockey fans and thank your country for such contribution to the sport".

Rene Fasel is an old friend of hockey Belarus. It was he who made every effort to defend Minsk as the capital of the world championship 5 years ago. The federation was under serious political pressure then, but it did not change its choice. The same principle helped to make another right choice in favor of beautiful sport in May 2017. Belarus and Latvia won the right to host a joint world championship. Minsk and Riga will host the main ice battles next year. The President promised to hold this championship with dignity.

Rene Fasel added that Belarus' readiness is no longer in doubt.

Rene Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation:

"Latvia and Belarus are the strongest hockey powers. Hockey is one of the leading sports for your countries. So I have no reason to worry about the future championship. I'm 100% sure of success. In 2014, we have already held a hockey championship of the planet in Minsk. Then 16 teams showed an amazing game, the host side demonstrated an excellent organization. Both Belarus and Latvia have an excellent base for hockey fans. So I really expect the best world championship next year in Riga and in Minsk".

The distinguished guest also noticed that hockey remains one of the few sports not touched by doping scandals.
