Tomorrow, the FAI World Helicopter Championship 2018 kicks off near Minsk. This is the largest competition in helicopter sport in the history of Belarus. The 16th World Championship will bring together 36 crews – that’s 72 pilots – from seven countries: Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Germany, and China. Participants will compete in slalom, cargo unloading, navigation, and precision events.
Belarus is among the favorites of the championship. Last year, Belarus claimed silver at the World Championship in Poland, and this year at home, sports ambitions are even more serious. Belarus won the right to host the World Championship thanks to its achievements in the development of aviation sports. This was stressed by Jacques Berlo, the President of the FAI Rotorcraft Commission (CIG) last year during the World Championship test in 2017 at the Borovaya Airfield.
This year, the best female crew will be chosen, and the championship will continue with the festival #ProNebo. Traditionally, the most spectacular event will be helicopter racing. This year's surprise is the night drones races that will be held for the first time.
