Belarus wins its first gold at Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang

The Belarusian national team has claimed its first gold at Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang. A few minutes ago, the 15km Freestyle ski race for athletes with visual impairment finished, and the Belarusian Svetlana Sakhanenko was the fastest – almost 8 seconds faster than her nearest competitor from Ukraine. Another Belarusian athlete – Yadviga Skorobogataya – finished fifth.

An hour earlier, Yuri Golub won the silver in cross-country skiing in 20 km among athletes with visual impairment. The Belarusian lost only to Brian McKeever of Canada.

All in all, with its six medals Belarus is now on the 9th place in the medal standings.
