Paralympic team of Belarus welcomed back from PyeongChang at Minsk National Airport

By Elena Gorelchik: The Belarusian Paralympic team returned from PyeongChang. Champions and prize-winners, debutants and already experienced athletes – all these guys returned home as the winners.

In PyeongChang, Belarusian athletes won 12 medals – in 4 each category. In skiing, the team claimed 6 medals, including 3 gold medals. The first medals were claimed by Lidia Grafeeva and Dmitry Loban. The results in biathlon were a pleasant surprise as well. In the medal standings, the Belarusians took the 8th place, so the Winter Paralympics in South Korea became the most successful Games in the history of the country.

Despite the late hours, fans, friends, and relatives came to the airport to greet the athletes. The athletes received a warm welcome and were presented with flowers. The champions noted they did not expect such a welcome, but the support from their homeland was felt in South Korea.

Now, the athletes are already eyeing the next Games – the Summer Paralympicsin Beijing. The preparation starts now. Belarusian skiers note they feel quite comfortable in a new discipline for them – triathlon.
