Semion Shapiro becomes new head of Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation

Semion Shapiro, the Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, was elected Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.

This happened at the reporting and election conference, where Igor Rachkovsky – the former head of the organization – resigned. Despite the victory in the application company for the right to host the World Championship in Belarus and Latvia in 2021, the Belarusian hockey team is ready for changes. A special emphasis will be placed on the preparation of the team’s reserve players.

Semion Shapiro, the Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation: "The work must be collegial. It is necessary to listen to all points of view. Of course, they will be different. I understand this, and in ice hockey, it's always been like this. Of course, it was necessary to strengthen the team, and coach more young athletes. Development, improvement, and strengthening is an endless and continuous process."

The performance of the Belarusian team during the last two World Championships was underwhelming. Belarus finished the group stage of the tournament in France in the 7th place out of 8 with only 7 points scored. In addition, in September 2016, Belarusian hockey players failed to qualify for the Olympic qualification, and will not perform at the Olympics in South Korea.
