FIFA World Cup kicks off in Russia
By Andrey Kozlov: Millions of people around the world follow this event religiously – the FIFA World Cup is one of the most important and popular sporting events in the world, and it has never been so close to Belarus. This time, hosting the World Cup are 11 cities of Russia.
It can already be said for sure that the World Cup in Russia has become the most scandalous and discussed ones long before its start, because the risk that it could be transferred to another country was very high.
At the opening of the World Cup, heads of many states were present, including Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarusian President warmly communicated with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his colleagues from other countries. The opening ceremony was followed by a match between the hosts of the tournament and the national team of Saudi Arabia. Russia claimed a resounding victory 5-0.
It is hard to believe but Iceland defeated Argentina. Messi failed to score a penalty for his team. Egypt lost to Uruguay 1-0. However, the main match of the first couple of days was Spain vs. Portugal. The teams tied 3-3.
The World Cup is a culture in its own. Even when it is over, it is be remembered for a very long time. The legacy of the football World Cup is inexhaustible, and we are in for a month of football of the highest level.
