By Andrei Ivanov: Belarus has been actively preparing for the Biathlon Junior World Championships in recent months, and now the event has officially been launched, featuring more than 40 participating countries, hundreds of athletes, journalists, fans and 16 upcoming races.

Showing good results at international biathlon championships and having a developed infrastructure and a successful experience in hosting major international competitions - such as the Ice Hockey World Championship – Belarus has earned the right to host another prestigious event.

A colorful opening ceremony of the Junior Biathlon World Championships ended less than fifteen minutes ago. Representatives of all the participating countries arrived at the State Flag Square at about 19:40. While they were preparing for a parade, the audience was offered a theatrical performance.

The first races of the Biathlon Junior World Championships will take place tomorrow: the individual Under 19 Girls 10 km race will begin at 10:00; the individual Under 19 Boys 12 km race will start 13:30. Official training sessions took place today.

Representatives of the Darya Domracheva fan club, who came to support young biathletes, said that the event in Raubichi will be attended by foreign fans traveling with the teams. The three-time Olympic champion herself wished the country to host the Championships successfully, because its organization will influence the prospects of hosting a World Cup stage.
