President Alexander Lukashenko finishes his official visit to Russia

Yesterday saw talks between the Belarusian leader and his Russian counterpart. The politicians discussed a wide range of issues regarding bilateral relations, one of the main topics being economy. Due to fluctuations in the currency markets, the volume of trade turnover between Belarus and Russia has gone down to 20.5 billion dollars over the past nine months, which is 27% less than last year. Nevertheless, the volume of Russia’s investments in Belarus exceeds 60 billion dollars.

The Presidents discussed in detail the issues of Belarusian goods’ equal access to the Russian market. In this regard, Vladimir Putin expressed his support for Minsk. The leaders also focused on international agenda issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Following expanded format talks, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement, agreeing, in particular, to coordinate efforts in the Union State and the Eurasian Economic Union to creation additional conditions for bilateral trade growth.
