3 people received high positions in the State Security Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Everyone had a personal meeting with the Head of State at the Independence Palace.

The President appointed Sergei Terebov First Deputy KGB Chairman. Before that, he was head of Gomel Region Department. Alexander Melnikov will hold his previous post. Gennady Kazakevich will be the First Deputy Minister Internal Affairs  and the chief of criminal police.

KGB will strengthen measures to counteract external influence in the country. Counterintelligence and the fight against terrorism are among the new challenges. The main task will be to prevent destructive influence from outside.

As for the work of the Interior Ministry, the emphasis is on common crimes: thefts, robberies, murders, bodily harm. In the overall structure of crime, they occupy a large share. The main task set by the President is to preserve the life, health and property of citizens. The global task for the ministry is to expand its anti-corruption work.
