On the second day of his official visit to Turkmenistan, Alexander Lukashenko took a brief tour of the memorial complex People's Memory in Ashgabat, which opened in October last year. The President laid a wreath at the monument to Great Patriotic War victims and left a note in the book of honorable guests. Also today, Alexander Lukashenko visited a Belarus-Turkmenistan trade fair and the Olympic Village.
Yesterday saw one-on-one talks between the Belarusian President and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Belarusian leader stressed the need to increase bilateral trade volumes. Another project discussed by the two leaders was the Garlyk mining and processing potash plant. The turn-key project, which is being implemented by Belarusian experts in Turkmenistan, is planned to be commissioned in time.
During an extended meeting featuring delegations Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Turkmenistan was Belarus’ strategic partner in Central Asia, as confirmed by constructive cooperation both on a bilateral basis and within international organisations.
The two Presidents adopted a joint statement on deepening friendship between Belarus and Turkmenistan. Besides, the countries signed a road map of cooperation for the next two years and entered into agreements on cooperation between the Foreign Ministries and the Academies of Sciences, as well as in the consumer and food industries.
