Today’s meeting at the Palace of Independence was devoted to cooperation of Minsk and Islamabad.

The task is to increase the turnover to one billion dollars by the end of 2020. A joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission on trade and economic cooperation is working on this. Specialized working groups on interaction in science, industry, agriculture, education, and the military sphere have been created.

Today, the President of Belarus met with Pakistan's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The conversation went beyond the purely military topics, because our country is actively building relations with Pakistan. In August of this year, a new head of government was elected there. Despite the changes, Belarus is committed to developing cooperation. Moreover, countries have strong relationships and great prospects. Today, our President conveyed an invitation for the Prime Minister of Pakistan to pay an official visit to Belarus. In 2019, Minsk and Islamabad will celebrate the quarter-century anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During today's meeting, the parties discussed global projects in the region. Islamabad and Beijing are now building the China-Pakistan economic corridor. Belarus participates in the large-scale project One Belt, One Road. The implementation of these initiatives is a good opportunity to combine economic interests. As for military cooperation, Alexander Lukashenko assures that the partners will be shown everything that they are interested in Belarus. By the way, the Armed Forces of Pakistan are more than just an army. People in uniform implement important social projects for the country.

In memory of this meeting, Alexander Lukashenko and Zubair Mahmood Hayat exchanged gifts.
