The situation on the external circuit and its impact on the economy inside the country was discussed at the Security Council meeting in the Palace of Independence. The President underscored that today these are the most important matters for the state.
Their significance is akin to ensuring military security. It is not the first year when Belarus has to work under financial and trade blockade by the West. In recent months, this pressure has only taken new forms. Belarus has to set priorities by reviewing its approaches to national foreign policy. The political stability inside the country directly depends on it. Successful operation of the economy in the context of sanctions is the main indicator of the effectiveness of the authorities. And Alexander Lukashenko requires a sensible assessment of the situation, to see the threats for the future, to calculate the reserves for countering the sanctions.
The confrontation between the world's leading players aggravated the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Our choice was obvious. The mechanism of military support within the framework of the Union State was absolutely legitimate. However, Belarus traditionally tried to establish a dialogue between the conflicting parties. But all the peacemaking efforts remained unnoticed. Moreover, the West did not need them, the President is convinced. All of this requires us to adjust our foreign policy. Belarus will continue to uphold its national interests.
