EAEU Customs Code should be aimed at improving business environment

When adopting the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus’ national interests must be taken into account, as announced by President Alexander Lukashenko at yesterday’s meeting dedicated to a draft agreement on the Customs Code. The document should facilitate the free movement of goods within the Union and be aimed at improving business environment, including export promotion. The President demanded a report on how the draft Code would contribute to developing investment climate, improving Belarus’ transit attractiveness and protecting domestic producers and whether the country’s economic security would be ensured. According to the President, the document must be absolutely verified. Alexander Lukashenko set a task of additionally working out and analysing individual provisions of the new Customs Code.

The document is planned to be signed at a summit of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council scheduled to take place on 26 December in St. Petersburg.
