The elections in Belarus were held in an organized and consistent way in accordance with the laws of the country. They were open, competitive and ensured the free expression of will of the citizens of Belarus. These are the assessments of the CIS observers.

International experts summed up the results of monitoring the election campaign. Alexander Lukashenko met with the Head of the CIS mission Sergei Lebedev. The conversation touched upon the election process and the situation in the country that developed after the closure of polling stations.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus: "I know the assessment of your mission and will be very happy to hear your comments and suggestions during the election campaign. But you saw that we wanted to give people a holiday, and they really responded.

It touches me when they come with small children.

The unsatisfied people encouraged other to go on streets. The Internet was turned off from abroad to cause discontent among the population. Now our experts are working out where this blocking is coming from. The Internet disconnection is not our initiative."

According to Sergei Lebedev, the majority of Belarusians voted for peace and stability. The conversation also focused on contacts within the Commonwealth.  Belarus remains committed to cooperation in the CIS. Our country will preside over the Commonwealth next year.
