President discusses work and development of judicial system with Chairman of Supreme Court

The development of the country's judicial system, innovations in work and high-profile criminal cases today have become the topics for a thorough dialogue between the President and Chairman of the Supreme Court Valentin Sukalo.

This meeting was the continuation of the big discussion that took place in April. The Head of the State gave many instructions when he visited the new building of the Supreme Court. The President instructed the representatives to reconsider their profession, to be more attentive to people and each specific case in practice. The approach to the cases will generally give the impression of the entire judicial vertical of the country. Undermining the image is simply unacceptable. The tasks were formed specifically for the Supreme Court.

The upcoming changes in the judicial system of the country, firstly, will concern strengthening the staff. A methodology for the psychological testing of candidates for the positions of judges of courts of general jurisdiction was developed together with the Academy of Public Administration, which will help to determine the best employees.

The Supreme Court has developed a draft law "On Changing Codes", which is prepared for the second reading in parliament and will allow audio or video recording of court hearings. The regional courts, as well as the district courts, should become more technologically advanced from January 1. The process of justice, judicial decisions will be transparent and open. The databank of them is being formed in Belarus. Access to it is open to everyone.

The Supreme Court is actively involved in updating the Code of Administrative Offenses.

Among the important tasks for the judicial system for the next year is the possibility of appeal of court decisions of the Supreme Court in the first instance. A single economic court of appeal will appear in Belarus. The disputing process will be in the mode of video-conference communication.

The Supreme Court together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs will develop a bill on amnesty for the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War in the new year on behalf of the Head of the State.
