President Alexander Lukashenko has received Interior Minister Igor Shunevich to discuss Interior Ministry optimisation. The President urged for a reasonable approach, stressing that the process should not be accompanied by thoughtless staff reduction. He also announced large-scale meetings with security forces and government representatives.
Summing up last year’s results, the Interior Minister said that the crime situation in the country had not worsened. In 2016, the number of crimes decreased while the crime solving rate went up. The number of crimes committed under the influence of alcohol, juvenile crimes and road accidents also reduced.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of setting up a national public security monitoring system in the country. According to the President, it is necessary to determine a price and algorithm for creating a fixed camera system. Such video monitoring systems exist in many countries allowing responding to law violations in a timely manner. The Interior Ministry suggested accumulating information from all the cameras in a unified centre.
The President separately touched upon the subject of sports as the Interior Minister is also the head of the HC Dinamo Minsk supervisory board. Alexander Lukashenko criticised the team’s performance in the KHL and expressed disappointment in its defeat to Dinamo Riga.
