President urges leather raw material suppliers, processors and consumers to unite

The Belarusian President has visited Gatovo, where the biggest domestic tannery is located. The company is going through tough times, though the industry has enough raw materials and the facilities are modernized. But shoemakers buy imported leather, and factories are burdened by debts.

The industry is strategic, the Belarusian leader is sure. It encompasses almost 80 plants that consume leather. But efforts to streamline the work of all links in this chain do not bring the proper return. Alexander Lukashenko tasked suppliers of raw materials, processors and consumers to unite.

One of the important things is to switch to the consumption of Belarusian leather and to limit imports. The decision of transferring the tannery to private business was rejected by the President.
