President holds meeting with Security Council on upcoming West 2017 exercise

President Alexander Lukashenko discussed in detail Belarus’ chairmanship in the CSTO, the upcoming West 2017 exercise and the protection of the country’s state borders and security with the Security Council’s State Secretariat leaders. Such meetings have already become regular. It is the Security Council that oversees law enforcement agencies, which ensure peace and order in the country.

Minsk will host the Second European Games in 2019. Ensuring security during the sports event is the number one task and another test for the law enforcement agencies. This year, Belarus is chairing the CSTO. Achieving a qualitative increase in the organization’s influence and efficiency are Belarus’ priorities. The upcoming exercise West 2017 will be a demonstration of consistency in ensuring the security of Belarus and its closest ally, Russia.

The meeting with the Security Council also discussed optimizing the security and law enforcement agencies. In addition, the President drew attention to the importance of maintaining order in the streets of Belarusian cities.
