By Ilona Krasutskaya: The Speaker of the upper house of Parliament reported to the President on the outcome of his recent visit to Turkmenistan and, in particular, on the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing plant which is being carried out by the Belarusians. The 1 billion-dollar worth turnkey project was launched in 2009 by the Belarusian President and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Garlyk mining and processing plant is expected to produce about 1.5 million tons of potash annually. The first batch of ore is planned to be extracted in mid-2016.
The symbolic project is curated by Mikhail Myasnikovich. He has visited the construction site twice, as Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council of the Republic. The results of these visits were presented today to the Head of State. Myasnikovich also heads a monitoring group on developing Belarusian economy. Its proposals concerning socio-economic evolution were announced during today’s meeting.
Mikhail Myasnikovich stresses the importance of active collaboration with local level deputies. During the spring session, the senators plan to consider 65 bills and adopt a bill on combating corruption which has been widely discussed by the general public and in the media.
