Belarusian President congratulates CIS leaders on 25th CIS anniversary

Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko has sent congratulatory messages to the leaders of CIS countries on the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The President pointed out that the signing of an agreement on establishing the CIS on 8 December, 1991 was the starting point for integration processes in the post-Soviet space. Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the fact 16 September this year saw the adoption of a conceptual decision to adapt the CIS to present-day circumstances, which has outlined further ways for its development. The Belarusian President is convinced that this event will strengthen the authority of the CIS, making it a more relevant union.

8 December, 1991 saw the signing of an agreement on the termination of the USSR. The outcome document stated the creation of a new union - the Commonwealth of Independent States.
