Dear Belarusians and Russians!
The Day of Unity of Belarus and Russia is a significant date in our common history and a vivid symbol of our brotherhood. The Union State is based on a solid foundation of rich spiritual and cultural heritage, large-scale economic cooperation potential and multifaceted interpersonal communication.
The special thing about today's holiday is that it is celebrated on the eve of a landmark date - the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was then that the Soviet people defended the freedom and independence of their homeland in cruel battles and freed the whole Europe from fascist slavery.
Together, we cherish and pass on the memory of the great achievements of the victors’ generation to our descendants. Together, we try to resist recent attempts to falsify history and belittle the significance of their unprecedented feat.
History has repeatedly proved that only together we are able to adequately respond to any challenges and threats. Today, when the international community is going through difficult times of conflicts and crises, our unity has a particular value.
Almost 20 years have passed since the signing of the first Belarus-Russia integration agreement. It has been a sometimes difficult, but very productive period. It is also gratifying that the alliance project gave rise to other integration processes, such as the Eurasian Economic Union which has launched earlier this year.
Our countries absolutely understand the need to further develop the Union’s construction and, most importantly, have a clear vision of its prospects. I am confident that the unbreakable friendship, mutual trust and understanding will always guide our peoples on the chosen path.
Dear friends! I heartily wish all of you who live in our common home a peaceful sky over your heads, productive work, harmony and well-being, good health and the fruition of your goals.
Chairman of the Union State Supreme State Council, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko
