Belarus-EU relations discussed at Palace of Independence today

22 июля 2019

Belarus sees no obstacles to strengthening political dialogue with European Union and ready to continue moving in this direction. The President stated this at a meeting with the head of the EU Delegation in Belarus. Andrea Victorin completes her mission in our country, which lasted about 4 years. Now Victorin will move to Armenia, and Dirk Schuebel will replace her at the post.

The EU is our second largest market. Last year the trade turnover exceeded $ 17 billion, and we sell more than we buy. The work of the EBRD resumed, the European Investment Bank came to the country, and the size of European grants doubled.

Alexander Lukashenko thanked the EU for the financial support of joint programs, highlighting the importance of infrastructure projects. The European Union has also repeatedly commended Belarus’s peacekeeping efforts in the region, including on the issue of resolving the situation in Ukraine.

After the rotation of personnel, the parties are counting on the path towards a rapprochement between Belarus and the European Union and the constructive dialogue will continue.
