Belarus will continue the course on full normalization of relations with the European Union, taking into account national interests.
This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting devoted to Belarusian-European relations. Recently there has been positive dynamics in the development of relations between Minsk and Brussels, the level and intensity of contacts increased. The general atmosphere has improved as well. According to the President, cancellation of the majority of sanctions against Belarus opens new opportunities for the development of our cooperation with the European Union.
The European Union is the largest market for Belarusian goods. Last year the mutual trade turnover with the EU countries amounted to more than 13 billion dollars. The top 5 trading partners of Belarus in Europe are Great Britain, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Lithuania. According to Alexander Lukashenko, there are many possibilities for the development of relations between Belarus and the EU on the basis of pragmatism.
In recent years, Belarus has been negotiating with the European Union on conclusion of several agreements. At the meeting the Head of State was interested in the progress in the negotiation process on simplification of visa procedures and readmission.
