Alexander Lukashenko and UN Secretary-General António Guterres had a phone conversation this week. The interlocutors discussed the most urgent issues of the agenda and separately dwelt on the export of grain from Ukraine. The Belarusian head of state made it very clear that Belarus was prepared to deliver Ukrainian grain to Baltic ports via Belarus and would help in any way it could in handling it by rail.

The President suggested that all the problems in this issue should be settled at the negotiating table with the participation of representatives of Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic states that are ready to provide harbors. The most important thing is that those ports (Germany, Poland, the Baltic States, Russia) should be open for Belarusian goods as well. In other words, if conditions were created for the transit of Ukrainian grain in the ports that will carry it out, it should be possible to load goods from Belarus as well.

The UN secretary-general asked for a break of several days in order to talk to the leadership of the countries concerned and determine the terms of supplies of Ukrainian grain to international markets via Belarus.
