Delegation of Kaliningrad Oblast visiting Minsk

By Ilona Krasutskaya: A representative delegation of Kaliningrad Oblast is visiting Minsk these days. President Alexander Lukashenko met with governor of Kaliningrad Oblast Anton Alikhanov.

Kaliningrad Oblast is an important and promising trade and economic partner for Belarus. Last year, the trade between Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast amounted to $ 190 million. At the moment, they are working on a number of projects that will boost cooperation still further. Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, for example, which Kaliningrad will host together with other Russian cities, Belarus will help the city upd ate its passenger transport. Also, Belarusian professionals take an active part in the construction of social housing, infrastructure and road facilities. There are promising projects in science and IT, as well as humanitarian projects.

Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast have good opportunities to consolidate industrial cooperation. This western region of Russia has a wide dealer network of products of Belarusian machine building. Light and furniture industry are se t up, too. In recent years, Kaliningrad Oblast has successfully managed to maintain the status of an agrarian region. The region fully provides itself with grain.

Tomorrow, the visit of the guests from Kaliningrad will continue. The delegation will visit N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre of Belarus, the Hi-Tech Park and the Dzerzhinsky Agro-Industrial Complex. Also, it is expected that matters of bilateral relations will be discussed on 30 November in Minsk – within the framework of the Summit of the Heads of State of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
