The military security of the country has been discussed today at the Palace of Independence. The President has brought together the law enforcement bodies to coordinate future actions to reliably protect our borders and citizens. New threats are constantly emerging. All this is accompanied by fakes and provocations. The Chernobyl plant is a case in point. By order of our President, Belarusian specialists have done everything necessary to ensure power supply to the plant.
In addition to the growing activity of NATO in the west, mercenaries from Ukraine have been spotted near our southern borders. We can expect anything from them, which means that it is extremely important not to allow them to violate the state border.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus: The situation in the region and the forecast of its development clearly show that in the near and medium term, threats to the military security of our country will be at a high level of aggravation.
Intelligence detected mercenaries in Ukraine moving along the Belarusian border
In addition, our intelligence has detected mercenaries from Ukraine near the Belarusian border. We can expect anything from them. Our border, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant or the Russian military could be a target.
Another possible "task" for the mercenaries is the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. But it was already turbulent there. All the nuclear facilities in the exclusion zone were left without electricity in such a case, the consequences could be unpredictable. Electricity is needed for the safe operation of the spent nuclear fuel storage facility. The President instructed the Belarusian specialists to provide power supply to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
More than 30 years ago Chernobyl became a national pain. Dangerous isotopes affected almost a quarter of the territory of Belarus and 140 thousand people had to permanently change their addresses. For decades, our country has been single-handedly restoring and returning those lands to normal life. It was our President's initiative. People finally began to live peacefully in these territories, create families, raise children. That is why all necessary arrangements for the operation of the station were made by Belarusian specialists in the shortest possible time.
Belarus will take care of refugees from Ukraine
More than two million people left Ukraine during the military operation. Most of them went to the neighboring countries. Contrary to the attempts to make Belarus an aggressor and to downplay the importance of our assistance, we will continue to provide all the necessary support to the Ukrainian people. The Belarusian checkpoints are operating normally. According to border guards, the suspension of Ukrainian border crossings creates problems for those who leave the country for Belarus in search of peace and shelter.
The situation in the region shows that no improvement can be expected. Therefore it is extremely important to foresee the development of the situation one step ahead against the backdrop of the aggravated situation on the external frontier.
Talks of Presidents of Belarus and Russia will take place on March 11
Tomorrow, the security issues, including those in the context of Ukraine, will be discussed at the top level in Moscow, where our President is scheduled to meet with the Russian leader.
