President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko urged to develop our own response measures to climatic challenges in the EAEC, BelTA informs.
"I would also like to touch upon a relatively new, but very relevant aspect of our integration - the Union's climate agenda," said the President.
He drew attention to the fact that for several years the European Union has been actively preparing for trade in the current environment. The mechanism of cross-border carbon regulation being developed by the countries of the European Union will become a serious instrument to influence international trade. "The European Union will get additional room for maneuver. Goods recognized as "clean" will be allowed on the market, and what they don't need will simply be blocked. They know how to do it," said Alexander Lukashenko.
In this regard, the President sees the need to unite efforts within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and develop their own approaches and measures to respond to climate challenges. "We need to systematically move towards the structure of the economy, which is dominated by production and technology with low greenhouse gas emissions," said the Belarusian leader.
