The leadership of Ukraine must do everything so that civilians did not die. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with Associated Press news agency, BelTA informs.

During the interview, the American journalist spoke about "Russian atrocities in Ukraine," citing the events in Bucha and Mariupol as examples, and asked the President if he could tell his Russian counterpart that "it's time to stop."

"I promise to pass on your words to the Russian President. We will meet with him in the near future. I promise. But I want to address the same words to you, to the West above all: stop lying. You are wrong to cite the example of Bucha. What was happening in Bucha?  I do not know how immersed you are in this.  We know who organized this show. There were mostly Englishmen, who came from Lvov in cars, filmed in Bucha and then threw it into the information space," said Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of the state noted that it is not the first time when he faces such provocations, especially after the events of 2020. "I know how it is done. Therefore, there is no need to talk about Bucha," he added.

"As for Mariupol. António Guterres, the UN Secretary General, was in Ukraine recently and asked Putin a number of questions. Putin was open and agreed to open corridors, withdraw civilians and the like.  But Mariupol is also not a good example in the context of our topic. Everything is being solved there and everything depends on the authorities of Ukraine", stressed the President.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that one can reproach Russia as much as one wants, but the war is not in its territory. "The war is in the territory of Ukraine. And the leadership of the country must be interested, first of all, in preventing civilian casualties. And everything must be done to that end," he said.
