Lukashenko outlines urgent tasks at Security Council meeting: work under sanctions blockade, foreign policy and the peacekeeping mission

7 апреля 2022

The President held a session of the Security Council, where he outlined the position of Belarus on the most urgent issues for the country including the situation on the external circuit, the sanctions hit the Belarusian economy, the foreign policy course and our peacekeeping mission.

Alexander Lukashenko called for minimizing the influence of the current agenda on the social and economic development and, as a result, the well-being of people. This is the most important task. Its importance is akin to ensuring military security. It is not the first year when Belarus has to work under the conditions of the Western financial and trade blockade. In recent months, this pressure has only taken new forms. Successful operation of the economy under sanctions is the main indicator of the effectiveness of the authorities. The President does not see this as a tragedy for the real sector. On the contrary, he calls on us to use the new opportunities for our own benefit. In particular, to immediately develop the niches which have become vacant with the departure of Western companies.

A. Lukashenko: The speed of sanctions approval proves that they were prepared long in advance

The confrontation between the leading centers of power was aggravated the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Our choice was obvious, the President stressed.

At the same time Belarus still seeks to establish a dialogue between the conflicting parties. Three meetings of Russian and Ukrainian delegations were held in Belarus. But these efforts were only followed by a new round of sanctions pressure!

President: There can be no negotiations without the participation of Belarus

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to implement the presidential decision. The position of Belarus on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine must be voiced. It has been presented before, noted the head of the Foreign Ministry. Today it is important to actualize it. The final meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian sides cannot take place without Belarus participation.

Belarusian economy holds the blow: the consequences are minimal

As for the economy, it firmly holds the sanctions blow. The work of the real sector, employment, wages, cause no critical situations. The demand for domestic products in foreign markets exceeds last year's figures. As a result, the stocks are minimal. According to experts, the economic growth could have exceeded even the planned figures, but for the new sanctions packets.

Presidents of Belarus and Russia intend to meet in the near future

Against this background of the effective implementation of the Belarusian-Russian agreements, the mutual support is an important component of the union policy. Today Alexander Lukashenko announced a meeting with Vladimir Putin. In the near future, the Presidents intend to discuss the problems that require solutions at the highest level.
