Lukashenko: Governors are key officials in the country

New personnel decisions were made by the head of state. The country has two new governors and the head of the Central Election Commission. 

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Subbotin will head the Vitebsk Region. Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic Anatoli Isachenko will become the Governor of Mogilev Region. They are native to these regions, they have been in charge of many issues there. Alexander Subbotin directly participated in the development of new approaches to the development of agriculture in the Vitebsk Region and the creation of integration structures. Anatoly Isachenko knows his Mogilev Region well too. He started his career in Gorki District as a senior engineer of a collective farm, later held senior positions in district executive committees and was deputy governor.

The President intends to personally introduce the new governors to the teams of regional executive committees and meet with the executive personnel of the regions. A number of instructions have already been given today, in particular, with regards to the Vitebsk Region.

Igor Karpenko appointed new Chairman of the CEC 

Igor Karpenko, who has been the Minister of Education since 2016, will head the CEC. Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that with the upcoming referendum on updating the Constitution the new head of the CEC will have a big and responsible job. If the people support the amendments to the Basic Law of the country, Igor Karpenko may become the first head of the CEC to be elected by the All-Belarus People's Assembly. After all, the draft Constitution contains norms that will make the electoral process more transparent and independent.

Lukashenko: we are going raise the role of the Central Election Commission

The Council of the Republic also approved the appointment of the CEC head. During the communication with journalists Igor Karpenko said that he intends to keep the same working style he adopted while being in charge of the Ministry of Education, i.e. openness and publicity. 

Today, five members of the Central Election Commission were appointed as well.
