By Alexei Martinenok: As part of the global tour, the World Cup arrived in Minsk. Famous sportsmen, young players, representatives of the football community, winners and prize-winners of the Olympics could see the legend firsthand. In anticipation of the arrival of a big sports award, an excursion was organized for the guests at the Palace of Independence.
The event was attended by the President and FIFA representative Lucas Rakhov. After a memorable photo session, Alexander Lukashenko warmly communicated with the participants of the ceremony: discussed first success of young players and talked with famous sportsmen and coaches about the development of various sports in the country, especially about football. The performance of our athletes at the Olympics in Pyeongchang was discussed as well.
At the end of the event Lucas Rakhov handed a small copy of the FIFA World Cup to Alexander Lukashenko. It is planned that it will become a permanent exhibit in the Palace of Independence.
This very night the World Cup will travel to the capital of Bulgaria. The football year is just beginning for the Belarusians. Perhaps, for the first time in history the World Cup will be held so geographically close to us.
According to the organizers, half of the world's population will watch the TV broadcasts of the World Cup.
