By Ilona Krasutskaya: The first official visit in the history of Belarus-Ecuador relations took place on June 28, 2012. Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Quito was marked by a number of agreements. The parties agreed to establish a bilateral commission on trade and economic cooperation. It was then that Rafael Correa was invited to Belarus. The Ecuadorian President has paid a return visit in October this year.

Today's visit of the Ecuadorian Vice President is the result of those agreements between the two leaders. Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Belarus has no closed cooperation topics with Ecuador. Recent positive dynamics in trade and economic relations do not fully meet the potential of the two countries. Alexander Lukashenko believes that increase in bilateral trade should be viewed as top priority. The parties agreed to implement a number of joint investment projects. Specific proposals were discussed in the Council of Ministers of Belarus.

After the talks, the Ecuadorian delegation laid wreaths at the monument to Great Patriotic War victims.
