New Belarus-Ukraine joint projects discussed at Government House

The parties discussed industrial cooperation, agriculture, energy and transport. As a result, the two countries signed six documents, including a 2013-2015 cooperation agreement.


By Svetlana Konopatskaya: Discussing the economic component of the bilateral relations, the sides confirmed their readiness for cooperation with new projects and agreements. The consistent strategic partnership course was pointed out by the Heads of State at the meeting in Kiev this summer. The politicians talked about the successful implementation of large-scale bilateral projects and significant progress in the fuel and energy field and industrial cooperation.


In the 8 months of this year, the trade turnover between Belarus and Ukraine has amounted to 4.5 billion dollars with Belarus' positive balance of 1.7 billion dollars.


Today the Ukrainian delegation proposes to jointly develop the production of the entire agricultural machinery range. The proposal has been supported. By the way, MTZ tractors and Lidaagromash machinery is successfully assembled in Ukraine. Together with the Ukrainian partners, Belarusians assemble passenger cars, trucks and milking equipment in Gomel. Joint production of welding electrodes has been established in Svetlogorsk.


Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries reached nearly 8 billion dollars. But the parties are seeking for new projects to raise the relations to a new level. First of all, this is possible due to industrial cooperation and high technology.


According to Nikolai Azarov, the signing of the association agreement with the European Union will provide Ukraine with additional opportunities and incentives for the development of cooperation with the Customs Union.
