By Natalia Breus: Belarus is committed to basic OSCE principles, as announced by President Alexander Lukashenko at today’s meeting with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Christine Muttonen.

The international organisation’s annual session will take place this summer in Minsk. The event will be attended by over 700 participants, including about 300 parliamentarians from OSCE countries. Issues related to the preparation and holding of the important event that will contribute, among other things, to consolidating Belarus’ image in the international arena are currently being discussed in Minsk.

The OSCE is the world's largest regional organisation that deals with security issues. It unites 57 states in North America, Europe and Central Asia. One of OSCE institutions is the Parliamentary Assembly.

This year, Belarus will host the international organisation’s annual summer session — a relevant agreement was signed yesterday. The important event will be a step for further ensuring regional stability. It will focus on a wide range of topics from economy and politics to environmental issues and democracy development and is expected to result in a Minsk declaration with recommendations for its participants.

According to Christine Muttonen, Belarus’ delegation is one of the most active in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Not so long ago, Alexander Lukashenko suggested that Europeans should think about resuming the peacemaking process. Minsk can become a platform for international community experts to meet. The forthcoming OSCE parliamentary forum is an image-making event and a signal for serious politicians and investors that Belarus is a reliable partner.

The fact that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is considered by Belarus as a platform for working out common solutions for security in the region has been pointed out in the Foreign Ministry. Belarusian diplomats will be contributing to that in every possible way.
